33 Weeks Old

Is it officially the start to summer? Could have fooled me...Nora even had to wear a hat at the Multnomah County Fair over Memorial Day weekend. Oh well...hopefully the warm weather is on it's way.

Not a whole lot new to report since last week. Still not rolling over or crawling yet although she is spending more and more time trying to get up onto her knees from a stomach lying position. She can move herself backwards but can't get up onto her knees enough to go forwards. She can scoot around a bit in a seated position although she hasn't been doing that too much since figuring it out last week. (Thank goodness!) Both her top middle teeth are fully poked through which means she can really bite now. Ouch! She's gotten my fingers a couple times pretty good. We got the Johnny Jump-Up out for her and she likes it although not for more than maybe 5 or 10 minutes at a time.

We've been busy with Henry's last day of preschool and Memorial Day weekend - I will do another post about those in the next day or two. I've got lots of great pictures and a funny video from the fair that I will share then too....but for now, that is all.

32 Weeks Old

I've been up late finishing a little project for Henry's classmates as tomorrow is their last day of school (boo!) - I wanted to put together a little photo collage for them to remember the school year. I can't believe they are off to kindergarten in the fall. Tomorrow Nora and I are accompanying his class to the Portland Aquarium (our first time going) and then the entire school is meeting for an end of the year graduation ceremony and picnic. With this terrible weather it will have to be an indoor picnic, but it should be fun nonetheless.

Nora is able to scoot herself around pretty well on her bum in a seated position. Luckily she doesn't do it all the time - only when there's something out of her reach that she really wants to get. She has an easier time doing it on a hard floor surface rather than the carpet which means she does it even less around our house (since it's mostly carpet where she hangs out). We stayed at Cary and Jeff's house this weekend to take care of their dogs and she got lots of scooting practice on their hardwoods. She also has started to give kisses...sort of. If I say "kiss?" she'll tilt her chin up and open her mouth. At least sometimes - not every time, but with regularity. It's so darn cute!
Not so many good pictures to choose from this week - I love the one of her with the peonies from our yard. In her highchair eating mandarin oranges (which she LOVES) and finally not a great one of her in her exersaucer...but I wanted to show just how big she is! She is in 9 month size clothing and I think she probably could wear some 12 month stuff.

Oops!

I completely forgot it was Wednesday today! It doesn't seem like Wednesday to me...this week's post will come tomorrow.

31 Weeks Old...7 Months!

This first picture makes me LAUGH! She looks evil! I was trying to get a picture of her wearing this too small beanie and sailor style jacket because she reminded me of an old-fashioned sailor and she made that crazy expression.
I took her into the doctor to get weighed a couple days after she turned 7 months...she now weighs 18 pounds, 15 ounces...essentially 19 pounds! This means she gained just 3 ounces shy of 2 pounds in only 1 month! I wasn't kidding when I said she loves food! Actually I am quite surprised at such a gain because I was expecting her gain to be smaller since "real" food is not as calorie dense as breastmilk...but she's certainly getting enough calories!
She's starting to rock a lot when she's sitting - I think she's trying to move forward. I'm guessing it won't be too much longer until she does figure out how to actually move around. I wonder if she will scoot on her bum like Henry did or properly crawl?

This video is just too cute! I put her down in front of the mirror the other day and she had a whole conversation with herself along with trying to kiss herself (actually probably bite herself) and touch her hands. I got the camera out today and put her down in front of it again with the same results. Unfortunately, she saw me filming her and from that point was distracted by me, but the first few seconds of the video are awesome!

30 Weeks Old!

Almost 7 months old! I am planning on taking her in to get weighed soon so I'll know how much she's gained in the last month since she started eating solids. And eating she is! This week on the menu has been feta cheese, asparagus, ground turkey (from spaghetti sauce), steamed apple slices, green beans, tuna fish (can't believe she likes that one - see the video! She makes faces like she doesn't like it but then kept eating it until it was gone), scrambled eggs, bread, steak, avocado, melon, tomato (learned you have to take the skin off of those)...hmm..probably more but that's what I can remember right now. She's trying to push herself up and start a little crawling move, but nothing very substantial. She can rotate herself around while on her belly and pushing her torso up, so there's some motion there, just not any forward movement. The other new thing she has started doing is when I am unbuckling her from her carseat she moves her arms out of the straps and then holds them out to me to pick her up. It's very cute! Henry continues to be her main source of entertainment (with Wilbur a close second). One of the videos shows just how hilarious she finds him - she is cracking up watching him do some "kung fu" moves.

Henry's school had their annual Mother's Day Tea today. I included a short video of a couple clips of them doing their performance. So darn cute! I just love the group of kids (and parents!) at that school and am so sad that they are going to be broken up for kindergarten next year. He is continuing with his swim lessons and acting class. He's made great strides in swimming and can now not only float on his back but swim that way as well (this is in addition to the "regular" - face down - swimming he's already doing). He is really growing up and I'm loving watching him do so.

I almost forgot to add that she got her third tooth this morning! It's the upper right tooth and is just barely poking through - more like a slit in her gum at this point.

29 Weeks Old

Theme for this week has been outside, outside, outside! Spring is finally bringing us sunny days and warm weather. If we're not at the park, we're out in our yard playing and enjoying the sunshine. Henry is dressed up in his army fatigues to go dinosaur hunting (we watched Jurassic Park). He alternates between being a paleontologist searching for dino bones and being in Jurassic Park and having to kill the wild dinosaurs. The other picture of him above is one morning heading out to school. He looks like such a big kid to me in this picture!

Nora is working on getting some more teeth so she's got a nose that's running like a faucet and drooling like Wilbur when he's begging for food. Lots of teething tablets (a homeopathic remedy) for her - especially before sleeping...without them she has a very hard time falling asleep (or doesn't at all); but when I give them to her she is able to fall asleep easily. She is eating all kinds of foods. She loves her feta cheese and all the vegis I've given her. Also loves bread. The one thing she actually hasn't liked was some pear/mango baby food I got her to help ease some constipation issues. She ate some (making terrible faces) then refused it. I tried it again later in the day and the next day with the same results.

She's almost rolling over from front to back. She gets all the way onto her side and then just stays there. I'm sure she'll figure it out soon and then hopefully she'll stop at that point and not realize she can move herself around the room by rolling - I'm not ready for a mobile baby yet!
