Weekly Update

Whoops! Another week flew by and no update! Not that we are particularly busy or anything...just didn't get around to the blog this last week. Finally, some nice weather! Henry keeps wanting to play in the water outside. Even though it's been nice, we've only had a couple of days that have been warm enough to qualify for water play. He'll have to wait a little longer. In the meanwhile he's been using his play lawnmower religiously. He has logged many hours pushing and pulling that toy around our backyard, side yard, and front yard and hasn't tired of it yet. We're still working on getting him 100% weaned. Brett's been doing an awesome job getting him to bed each night with "no nursing!!" (as Henry puts it); but he still nurses in the morning when he wakes up. This allows us all to sleep in to a decent hour, so it's very difficult to take a hard line on eliminating it. The talking continues to increase with new words every day and he said the longest sentence ever the other day...we saw some crows in the parking lot at the store and he turned to me and said "Mama, bird poop outside Gigi's house!" I repeated the sentence back to him saying " a bird pooped outside of Gigi's house?" and he said, "yeah - street!" Meaning the bird pooped in Gigi's street. Obviously this made quite an impression on him since they saw the crow a couple weeks prior to him telling me this story. I, on the other hand, was much more impressed by the quality of the sentence than the meaning of it! :)

Weekly Update

Happy Birthday, Brett! Brett is now officially closer to 40 than to 30. O-L-D! :)
Here we are at Baskin Robbins celebrating Brett's birthday with some ice cream...Henry was such a big boy sitting in his own chair and eating the ice cream cone all by himself. The flavor Henry had was the sweetest ice cream I've ever tasted and the sugar rush hit him literally right before our eyes. He went crazy!
We are working on getting him weaned completely. So far it's going pretty good. I went up to Seattle to visit Kati and Vivi for one night so the process began that night. Since then, Brett's been putting him to sleep at night. Henry wakes up usually once in the middle of the night and I just rock him back to sleep - then he gets up around 6 am and I do nurse him (I am so dang tired!). But we are definitely making progress and that's what is important.
The second picture is of Henry showing off his reward for going to sleep without nursing - painted toenails! He's holding up the nail polish and letting his toes dry! :) He also has a chart in his room and gets a sticker for every day he goes to sleep without nursing. When he fills the chart up he gets to go to Build-a-Bear and get a baseball outfitted bear. He's very excited about that as well.
The video is of him dancing to the Lion King soundtrack...nothing too exciting, but pretty cute!

Weekly Update

The rain continues! The weather (literally) put a damper on many of our plans for this week - including the Junior Rose Festival Parade. Oh well...there's always next year! Instead, we don the rain jackets and boots and head outside for some good old fashioned puddle stompin'.

Henry's also been playing a lot of "indoor" sports - basketball, tennis, and baseball being among his favorites. I'm sure once he starts watching the World Cup, he'll be into soccer as well. The picture above is of him admiring the headband Daddy made him in the mirror before heading into the other room to shoot some hoops!

Weekly Update

26 months old! Wow...this month has just flown by! Unfortunately, the last week's weather has kept us mostly homebound - or at least indoor bound. We did make it out for a nice long walk on Sunday - made even longer because we let Henry walk a pretty good portion of it himself and he had to stop at all the different trees and plants and inspect them close up. The biggest change in him this week is his language - he is repeating just about everything he hears...which is hilarious. His pronunciation is really improving as well. He's trying to put together little sentences all the time. No more peeing on the potty yet, even though as the picture shows, he likes to try. I think the reward of using the toilet paper is pretty exciting for him. We got him that little white table at IKEA and are using a chair that was originally Uncle Mike's or Geoff's. He loves sitting at his own table and will occasionally take his meals there while we eat at the dining table.
