Wildlife Safari!

Last weekend we headed down to Winston, Oregon, to go to the Wildlife Safari. We drove down to Roseburg and spent the night there before heading a bit farther southwest to Winston the next day. What should have been a fairly uneventful night, ended up with Henry getting VERY ill through the night - throwing up with a high fever. Once we finally got some Tylenol in him and relieved his fever, we were able to get a couple hours of sleep in the early morning hours. Surprisingly, Henry seemed to feel a lot better and we still made it through the safari. He clearly was not feeling 100%, but still had a great time seeing all the animals. I remember going to the Wildlife Safari when I was a kid myself, but it was really cool to see again - I definitely recommend it as an easy trip from Portland. We saw way too many animals to list here, so I'll just share a bunch of the pictures instead! Henry made it home without incident (slept most of the way, thank goodness!), but then got sick again the next morning. I got sick a few days later with what I presume to be the same thing he had, and boy oh boy, I don't know how he managed to enjoy himself to the extent he did, because I felt absolutely terrible. He's one tough kiddo!

Happy Birthday, Brett!

Today is Brett's birthday! Henry was so excited! He wanted to bake a cake immediately upon awakening this morning and was disappointed when I told him we had to wait until lunchtime to bake it. We had dinner out at Benihana's with Brett's parents and I'm not sure who enjoyed it more - Henry or Brett! Henry was also super excited to give Brett the presents he chose all by himself; a new pair of flip flops and a giant bag of licorice. :)

Weekly Update

The Junior Rose Festival Edition
The big event we did this week was attend the Junior Rose Festival Parade on Wednesday. Oh my goodness, did Henry ever have fun! He loves marching bands and was so, so, so excited to see all the bands. Add in the Tae Kwon Do demonstrations, gymnastics, jugglers, unicyclists, BMX riders, the policemen, a firetruck, Scooby Do and Blaze and you basically have all of his favorite things in one place. He was so thrilled with every single part of the parade. Henry was either waving or marching around the entire time. I was so happy that the rain held off - we had an absolute blast!

Warm Weather Fun!

Yay! Finally we had some hot-ish weather. Sure, it was only one day but we took full advantage of it! Last Saturday (our first plus 80 degree day of the year), Henry and I went downtown to the Farmer's Market to have lunch, then strolled up to Cary's salon for a haircut. Then that afternoon we went to Gigi's for a BBQ and some sprinkler action. Even though Henry didn't know what a sprinkler was before we got there, he absolutely loved running through it.

Swimming Class

Well, Henry's first swim class is over. He did wonderfully. Given that for the first two classes he barely got into the water, the progress he had made by the end was nothing short of spectacular. If or when he takes another session, he'll just take the same one again since the requirement for advancement is that the child be able to put their face in the water and blow bubbles for 5 seconds. He might be good, but he's not there yet!
