The Cat in the Hat

As part of the Dr. Suess birthday celebration, Powell's bookstore hosted a special reading of The Cat in the Hat with a live appearance from the Cat himself. Henry LOVES that book and was SO excited to go see him. I made the unfortunate mistake of telling him about our planned outing the day before so for a whole 24 hours all I heard was "Go see the Cat in the Hat NOW!" Henry wanted to ask the Cat if he plays basketball and if he has his own hoop (he told me this the night before), but when it came down to it, the event was just too crowded and the poor Cat was mobbed. But, Henry did get in a good pet the first time the Cat came around and then a hug the second time.

Weekly Update

Well the big story this week was definitely the snow. I have to say, it was a pretty perfect snowfall. Just a little bit, but enough to play in and gone by the afternoon! We got to go outside and play for about 90 minutes even though Henry was still getting over his cold. The poor little guy was so snotty and congested, but it was the first day he'd been out of the house in quite a few days and he was thrilled. The neighbor kids came over and they had a snowball fight - boys versus girl. Tyler made snowballs for Henry to throw and Henry loved being a part of the action and playing with the big kids.
We have entered into the "why?" phase of toddler-hood. Just about everything we do is followed by either "what you doing, mom (or dad)?" and/or "why?" I must have answered about 15 "why's" the other day in regards to wrapping a birthday present. He is picking up so many new vocabulary words every day it is incredible. He told me he was "a little bit nervous" the other day about something. Then a couple days ago I was scrambling to get us out of the house quickly to make it to the post office before they closed and he said "don't worry, mom!" Brett and I are also loving that he is singing along to so many songs. I tried to get a video of him surreptitiously in the car today of him singing to Jason Mraz's "I'm Yours" but he knew the camera was on him so of course he didn't sing the way he usually does. I have to try and convince him to perform for the camera so I can share just how cute this is.
I can't wait to take him in for his three year checkup soon to find out how much he weighs and how tall he is percentile-wise. And one he turns three he'll finally be able to take some actual sports classes at the community center - something he has been looking forward to since last year when we first observed them. He's also itching to go bowling - I told him we could when he was completely over his cold, so I guess we've got a bowling outing in our near future!

We Like To Party!

Saturday was a big day for three year old birthday parties in our world. Henry's two best friends both had their birthday parties - one in the morning and one in the afternoon. They were both a ton of fun although by the end of the day Henry was W-O-R-N out and cranky! We started out at Inari's Mermaid/Pirate themed birthday where Henry got to fish for prizes and dig for buried treasure.

His favorite activity though had to be the pinata. I knew how excited he was to take a whack at it and I was especially impressed with how readily he handed over the stick when his turn was finished.
Then in the afternoon we headed to Gymboree for Anna's party. My camera's batteries were unfortunately run out by this point, so I am sad to say I have no pictures! The kids were so cute and Henry was so happy to see his teacher was there. The activities of the day left him feeling pretty tired and we had to make a hasty retreat right after Happy Birthday was sung to stave off an impending meltdown. :)

Weekly Update

This week - actually the past 2 weeks - have been yucky ones for me. I've had a terrible cold that just will not go away. The only good thing is that is seems to have skipped Henry somehow. So we've been laying somewhat low since I haven't felt like doing too much. We did get a chance to take Henry to Gabriel Park to practice his bike riding some more. He is getting so good! We celebrated Valentine's Day by getting some heart-shaped pizzas and Henry helped me make cupcakes. Still working on potty training - it's going well, but slowly. He does really well when we are just around the house and he's wearing his big-boy underwear, but we haven't ventured out of the house without a diaper yet. I can't believe he is going to be THREE years old in a month!

Bike Riding

Darn it. I can't get this video to load in a good quality. The only way I can get it to upload is if the quality is poor....so sorry about that. But it does show how good the little guy is getting at riding his bike. I'm going to try and figure out how to get a better quality video to upload - I think it has something to do with either the new camera or the new movie editing software.

Weekly Update

Henry at his friend's birthday party.
Getting ready to ride his scooter - he is getting so good at it!!

This is going to have to be a quick one...I'm heading up to Seattle tomorrow for the weekend and need some rest! It's been a pretty typical week for us with the addition of a couple birthdays...Henry got to attend his friend's, Daniel, 3rd birthday party this last weekend - he had a blast playing and couldn't wait to sing Happy Birthday to him. Henry is doing awesome on the potty. Today at the library he told me he had to pee, we went to the bathroom and he did without peeing in his diaper. I think it's probably time to really focus on getting him out of the diapers.

The above two pictures are two scenes I am a sucker for - I just will never get enough of seeing Henry in the bathtub or in group of kids (this is at the library).
