Weekly Update

Henry's soccer class ended today...and finally, on the last day, he seemed to really understand the whole idea of soccer! Maybe we'll take another class this summer...
Swimming continues and he is doing wonderfully. He is really participating and is quite comfortable in the water now. I definitely credit his teacher for being the perfect mix of encouraging without forcing the kids to participate.
We tried to take full advantage of the couple of sunny days we had last week - lots of time at the park; walking, riding his bike, and playing at the playground. We also spent a day hanging out downtown - which is one of my favorite things to do and seems like Henry enjoys it just as much as I do. We just park the car at one end of town and start walking - picking up the streetcar or MAX as we go and exploring the town. He loves riding the streetcar - we'll try a bus next time. The picture of him sitting in the doorway was taken downtown while waiting for the streetcar.
This past Friday Henry and I headed up to Seattle to visit Kati and her kids. We had a blast! Henry and Daniel loved playing together...a little too much maybe...on Saturday morning Henry woke up, scooted off the bed, ran out of the bedroom yelling "Daniel! Daniel!" It was 7 am and no one else was awake yet! Whoops! They rode their bikes together and played and played and played. We also went to the zoo in Issaquah, which is where the picture of Henry sitting on the alligator statue was taken. It's a great little zoo where you can get up close to the animals. Henry got to feed llamas and deer which he loved. He was awesome in the car too - especially given that the trip up there took 5 1/2 hours! Ugh...accidents and Friday afternoon commute...but he did great!

Update

I can't even call this a weekly update because it's been too long! I hadn't downloaded any new pictures from my camera in a while so I didn't really have anything to post...but tonight I got all the new pictures off my camera and onto the computer, so I can finally do a long overdue update. Pretty much I should subtitle this the sports edition because our last couple weeks have been fairly sports-centered. Basketball ended and has been replaced by soccer, which is even funnier to watch than the basketball was! The video I am uploading gives you a good idea of how the class goes - trying to make a bunch of 3 to 5 year olds co-operate is one thing (as the beginning of the video shows), then add in Henry who isn't exactly task-oriented and you get the following video. I think Henry is having a bit of a difficult time transitioning from basketball (all hands) to soccer (all feet), but he's catching on. We also started swimming lessons and go twice a week for the next 5 weeks. The first week (and especially the first class) was a little rough. Henry spent the same amount of time out of the water as in it, and I spent the majority of the class crouched by the edge of the pool encouraging him to participate. But by today's class (the third) he remained in the water the entire time and participated in all the activities. It's just a class to get the kids acclimated to the water so they sing a lot of songs and play a lot of games. The second half of the video shows him in his second swimming class doing the hokey-pokey. The other two pictures are from a trip we took to the zoo - I love the one of him feeding the lorakeets. The look on his face is priceless - like "I really am not sure about this, but I'm doing it...."

Easter!

We had a great Easter...Saturday morning we went to Brett's parent's country club for an Easter Egg hunt which Henry absolutely loves. Easter morning was spent at our house then we headed over to Gigi's house for a late lunch (or early dinner?). Now onto the pictures....
