Backyard Fun

Yay! We have a wonderful backyard to spend these nice, warm/hot summer days playing in. Henry's getting ready for Hawaii with his batik shirt, hat, and sandals. He also did not seem to appreciate me taking his picture, which cracks me up. He is walking so much - he pulls himself up on something, steadies himself, sets his eyes on his goal, and takes off like a little Frankenstein, arms outstretched and wobbly. I love watching him when he doesn't realize I am; he is so obviously proud of himself when he makes it to his destination.

65 Weeks Old!

Late again. Henry is sick, again. Fever. Stuffed up/runny nose. Throw up. Diarrhea. I don't understand why/how he keeps getting sick and I don't. I thought the antibodies in my breastmilk would protect him or if I didn't have the antibodies, I would get sick too...which I'm not. Poor guy's fever would not break last night until nearly 4 am which meant both he and I were up nearly all night long.
We were supposed to go up to Seattle today to visit the Benson Family and meet their newest arrival (my goddaughter!!), Vivi Rose, but obviously had to postpone. The top picture is from earlier this week, Henry outside in the new playhouse we got him at a garage sale (and a BIG THANK YOU to Gigi for cleaning it and transporting it over here). The bottom picture is of him and Wilbur perched over the back of the couch looking out the window....their favorite spot to view what's going on outside and watch for visitors.

Major (MAJOR) Milestone Alert!

And, we have walking!! Henry's been taking a couple steps on his own in between people after we get him started, but maybe three steps at the most and it's usually a very unbalanced run towards his goal. That all changed tonight after dinner. I put him down on the ground standing, let go of him expecting him just to go down to the ground and crawl off, but instead he stayed standing and just took off walking across the room. And not just a couple steps, all the way across the room, probably 25-35 steps. We had his godfathers over for dinner and we all just watched in amazement as he kept walking around the room. It truly was amazing - probably the most amazing milestone yet.

64 Weeks Old!

Sleep. Sleep. Sleep. That's what's on my mind tonight. We are working on making the switch to the crib and I'm tense already. We're following Dr. Jay Gordon's method which is just about the complete opposite of the Ferber method, for those of you who are familiar. Last night Henry didn't get to sleep until after 11 pm and then today only took about a 45 minute nap. This proves again that sleep begets sleep.

In other non-yawn-inducing news, he has added more words to his burgeoning vocabulary. "Duck" and "book" along with something that might be "dog" but kind of sounds like "door." He has been practicing his "k" sound. I'm guessing because of duck and book; it is hilarious.

Gigi came with us to sign language class today which was fun for everyone. I can't say enough good things about the teacher and her company. She's a speech pathologist and is full of great ideas and techniques to help the kids learn language.
The only picture I have of him from the last day or two is of him in his bath. Boy, oh boy, does he love taking baths in the big bathtub!!

Happy Birthday, Brett!

Today Brett turned another year older. I love from June to January because it sounds like he's 2 years older than me. We went to see "The Hangover" tonight while Gigi babysat Henry. Hilarious movie...vulgar, but hilarious. We had a little party for him on Sunday; went out to dinner then everyone came over here and he opened presents and we had cake and ice cream. The theme of the day was definitely golf as he recieved a bunch of new golf shirts and some golf paraphenilia from The Master's - a golf towel, ball, tees, and hat. My mom had been planning on getting him the stuff from The Master's for months and has been holding on to it secretly since my uncle got back from Augusta in April.

As you can see in the pictures, Henry enjoyed the cake most of all (banana cake with whipped cream frosting that was supposed to be decorated with Brett's school colors but ended up just sort of looking like 4th of July-ish).

63 Weeks Old!

We're all moved in and almost all unpacked! We're loving the fact that there's a closed elementary school just a couple blocks away that we walk to almost every day. Wilbur can run around the field and Henry can play on the play structure. We've also made a couple of trips to Gabriel Park and walked all around. Speaking of walking, it's all Henry wants to do lately (with holding on to my hands). He whines and cries and throws little mini-tantrums if I won't help him walk around. It's definitely a taste of what's to come as far as temper tantrums. When walking around he loves to walk onto different surfaces. For example, from the carpet to the hardwood and back again. He also likes to step on things that are on the floor; toys, Wilbur's bed, anything. He is just testing everything out and it's so fun to watch. All his molars are in now (at least I think so) and he also FINALLY got his 4th tooth on the bottom. Until now only three had come through - and they came through months ago - so I was wondering if maybe he was missing the other tooth...but nope, it just took it's time. I really hope that he gets a break from teething for awhile now. The picture is of him eating breakfast - doesn't he look so grown up?!?

The Man in the Mirror

I narrated the beginning of the video...so it's pretty self-explanatory. Let's just say that Henry's favorite subject is Henry.

62 Weeks Old

We made the move yesterday (and more today, too). We had until the end of the day today to get everything out of the old place and get it cleaned up. There were just lots of little odds and ends. Brett definitely did the lion's share of the moving...I tried to keep Henry and Wilbur out of his way. Henry has had a couple of really late nights the last few days, but other than being a bit sleepy he seems to be adjusting well to the new surroundings. He loves having the new place to explore and "helping" unpack all the boxes.
No new picture this week - I've been way to busy to even pull the camera out the last couple days.

Warm Weather Fun!

We went to Foothills Park in Lake Oswego today with Molly and Anna. It was another warm day (although not as hot as it has been), but overcast. It actually was raining a little bit too...reminded me of being back in the South. The park has a little water feature with just a couple inches of water and the kiddos absolutely loved playing in it. Since it's been so warm the last couple days the water was a pleasant temperature too.

Moving day is Wednesday, so we are busy packing and taking small loads over to the new place so that the movers can work without obstruction.
