Sliding

This video is another one that is mostly just for the sound...it's me trying to tape Henry going down the little slide while also trying to make sure he doesn't fall off and to catch him at the end. He LOVES the slide.

11 Months Old!

On the heels of yesterday's weekly post, I don't have much new to report about Henry's progress. Again, I just can't believe we are a short 4 weeks away from his first birthday. We went to the indoor playgroup today and there were some moms sitting with their little babies and I could hardly believe that Henry was that small when we first moved back to Portland. Just a little sack of potatoes really. And it's strange to remember that he just laid around and didn't do anything in comparison to him now. Here are a couple pictures from the playgroup today - one of him with a ball and one of him at the top of the slide. (Stay tuned for another post regarding the slide...)

Crawling

Here is a little video of him in action...although of course he's not showing off his true skills - something about whenever the camera is on he decides to stop doing whatever it was I wanted to film. Oh well... this still gives you a good idea of how he moves!

48 Weeks Old

In addition to crawling/creeping, Henry has also waved a couple times and pointed at things a couple times, although neither with any regularity. For about the past week he'd been raising his fist at people (like a 'power to the people' kind of gesture) which we figured is his attempt at waving. In the last day or two he has actually opened and closed his hand so it definitely is waving. He's pointed at a couple things in books to me too. He's also enjoying pretending to give me something to eat and laughing when I pretend to eat it. Peek-a-boo is another fun game that he can now play on his own - pulling the blanket up over his face and then pulling it down again. But the moving around really takes the cake! He is so interested in Wilbur and Wilbur's toys...that seems like his main motivator - to get to Wilbur or his stuff. Poor Wilbur takes refuge upstairs under Henry's crib. Today was the last day of his second eight week session of music classes at the library. He has really enjoyed them and we'll pick them up again when they start at the end of March. It's fun to see all his little classmates getting bigger too!

Here are a couple pictures of him - the one of him "standing" isn't that great, but I had to show off the fact that he's wearing his first pair of jeans and how damn adorable he is in them!

Major Milestone Alert!

Crawling? Well, sort of...it's kind of a crawl/shuffle thing he's got going on, but it doesn't seem to matter because he can get himself all around every where now. All of a sudden last night something seemed to click for him and he started moving. He gets into a kind of crawling/sitting position and uses both arms and one leg to propel himself around. He can move FAST too! Nothing is safe in our house anymore and it's going to be a long process to childproof everything. Of course he wants to get into anything he can see so the being able to get there coupled with the ability to pull himself up (not quite to standing yet) means that anything and everything is fair game.

Anna's Birthday!

Today was Anna's first birthday party! She hosted a fabulous soiree with bubbles and balloons in the garage, "pony" rides in the living room (as you can see in the picture with Henry), an obstacle course of tents and tubes in the basement, and pizza and cupcakes in the dining room. The birthday girl wore a lovely, floor length gown in a darling shade of pink. Ever the lady, Anna daintily enjoyed a special cake made exclusively for her by her mother without making much of a mess...perhaps the guest of honor had filled up on pizza? In attendance were about 9 of her peers and various adults. All in all, it was the place to be today and will most definitely be the talk of the town for many months to come.

47 Weeks Old and Trip to L.A.

Since we're all pretty sick here, this post will have to suffice for both Henry's weekly picture as well as our trip to Los Angeles. Overall our trip was really, really fun. The wedding was beautiful (top picture) and we got to take a little trip to Hermosa Beach. The not so fun part was that during the trip is when Henry started to get sick. Luckily, Brett and I didn't start to get sick until we got home. Henry was awesome on the airplane especially considering he was ill. I just wish we could have stayed longer to see more of the sights in L.A....but not if we were going to get sick!

Early Valentine's Day Party

The group that offers the sign langauge class we took a couple months ago had a Valentine's Day themed get together for all past and present students of any of their courses. We attended and had a blast! There was quite a turnout! Easily 75 people, maybe more. We saw a family that was in our class and talked to them for awhile as well as Henry's teacher. This video is of Henry sitting in Brett's lap and listening to the live music. Unfortunately, I forgot that there's not a way to turn video like there is to turn pictures, so it appears sideways on your screen. If anyone knows of a way to turn it, let me know....otherwise just tilt your head to the left or turn the computer screen onto its left side!!

Ride 'em, Cowboy!

This week at the indoor play gym/play group I took a video of Henry riding that little horse he loves so much. The best part is at the beginning, after that he gets distracted by some other kids playing.

45 Weeks Old

We just got these pajamas for Henry last Sunday on a shopping trip with Gigi and my Aunt Joan. They are the cutest p.j.s he's had yet. Henry had a bad reaction to the shots he had yesterday. He got a fever and was so tired. Poor guy. I gave him infant Motrin and that seemed to help, but he's still really tired. Otherwise, all is well and we're on a countdown to his one year birthday!! The second picture here cracks me up - he got out of the bathtub tonight and it looked like he had a really bad hairpiece on the top of his head, so I had to get a picture of him.

10 Month Check-Up

Actually there's really no such thing as a 10 month check-up but because of Henry's alternate immunization schedule he went in to the doctor and had his last Polio shot and Prevnar shot. So we also got him weighed and he's weighing in at 19 pounds, 3 ounces. He has now had all the vaccines that a six-month old would have if they followed the recommended guidelines. It is quite reassuring to know he has had all his shots and that he had them at a slow and delayed pace. Why take the chance? is my opinion.
The bottom picture shows him in his "crawling" position...getting ready to really move although he hasn't started technically crawling yet. He has, though, pulled himself up on the coffee table and on the drawers in his room.
