Happy Birthday, Henry!

We had a lovely little (family only) party at Gigi's house on Saturday for Henry. In attendance were his grandparents, his uncles, his great aunt and uncle, second cousins, third and fourth cousins, greatgrandma, gawdfathers, and his honorary aunt Caroline. Henry is such a lucky little boy with so many people that love him and wanted to celebrate with him. Gigi made him a cake made in the shape of a number one. He didn't disappoint and proceeded to smash his piece and try to cram as much of it into his mouth as possible. He loves all his new toys and clothes. I've got some great video that I'll upload soon!

52 Weeks Old

So is a year actually 52 weeks and one day? How does that work and why can't I figure it out? In any case, he's 52 weeks old today and a year old tomorrow. He is standing and pulling himself up on any and everything he can. He is still loving playing with trucks and trains - anything with wheels. Watching for squirrels out our back window is another favorite passtime.

Here is a picture of him that we got taken at JCPenney's for his birthday. :)

Mischief Maker

Henry loves to get into Wilbur's food and water bowls so we're trying to make it a habit to take the bowls out and just leave the stand. (We put another bowl of water for Wilbur upstairs where Henry can't get at it.) Today, however, Henry still managed to get into a sticky situation even without the bowls!

51 Weeks Old!

One week away from his birthday! Here he is standing up against the couch in his slightly too-large-for-him pjs...

Henry continues to amaze me with his love of new foods. Not only does he love kalamata olives, sour cherries, pickles, (mild) Chinese foods, and (mild) Thai curries, today I discovered he also likes balsamic vinegar. I gave him a mushroom and pasta salad from the deli at Whole Foods to try at lunch and he couldn't get it into his mouth fast enough. The ingredients? Pasta, portobello, shiitake, crimini, white and button mushrooms, red pepper flakes, red onion, rosemary, olive oil, balsamic vinegar, and garlic. That is crazy to me! I'd started to add spices to the food I make him a couple months ago, but now I am convinced I have been under-seasoning his food. He obviously enjoys stronger flavors.

Right now he is loving pretending to feed us and then giggling and giggling. He also likes to play catch and actually manages to throw a ball pretty well considering his age! It still takes both of us by surprise sometimes when we look over and see him standing up against the couch or coffee table. We just still don't expect to see that yet!

Standing and Moving

Two weeks and a couple days since Henry started crawling, he has now progressed to the next stage of development. And I discovered a video editing program on Brett's computer! I'm not sure which is more exciting.

50 Weeks Old!

Instead of his regular weekly picture, I am posting a series of pictures that demonstrate how hard it is to snap a picture of him sitting calmly these days. He is just so incredibly active! As you can see, he's started pulling himself up on things and all he wants to do is get into everything...especially things he's not supposed to. We went to get some pictures taken of him last Tuesday for his 1 year photos at JCPenny's. He wasn't in the best mood, but by the end of the session he had warmed up. We did get some good pictures though - and some of the cutest ones are of him wearing his Superman costume from Halloween. We continue to go to the indoor playground group once or twice a week, story time at the library once a week and are eagerly awaiting the commencement of the next session of his music/sing-a-long class which really seems to be his most favorite activity. I try to get out and do something every day otherwise it would be very easy to go stir-crazy. Looking forward to warm weather!

49 Weeks Old!

The little mischief maker... With his newly acquired mobility, Henry wants to get into any and everything. I really have to keep him penned into the living room or else he will go after the dustbuster, Wilbur's water, the cupboards, the books....and if we're upstairs he is determined to crawl immediately for the top of the stairs. Yikes! (Yes, we do have baby gates.) He's also exploring what happens when he drops things - especially out of the bathtub and off his high chair. Here is his weekly picture and a picture of him yesterday at the playgroup with his new favorite type of toy - ones with wheels.
