Pee in the Potty!

Yesterday was the first day that Henry used his potty! Hooray! I don't necessarily expect him to suddenly be ready to potty train, but it's definitely a step in the right direction....

Weekly Update

Another busy week! It is SO nice to have a backyard where we can go out and take advantage of the brief breaks in rain to enjoy the sunshine. We went to Gabriel Park on Wednesday and got caught in a downpour on the other side of the park from our car - a good 15 minute walk away! But before the weather turned bad Henry and I went to Wilson High School to watch the JV baseball team play. Of course Henry LOVED this and I will definitely take him to more games. The picture of him at the game is of him standing in front of the bullpen (is that the right word?). After watching from the stands for awhile he wanted to go stand up closer to the players. The thing that seems to have made the biggest impression on him was the third base coach telling people whether to stay or run - he has been saying "go! go! go!" or "stop! stop! stop!" and talking about the game ever since. Henry took a trip down to Cary's salon (well, we all did actually!) and got an awesome haircut. I wish I had a better picture to show it off in - I will get some this week. The final picture is of Henry and our neighbor, Tyler, playing cars. Tyler is spending a little time every week over here between when he gets done with school and his mom can make it home from a class she's taking. It's so awesome for Henry because he absolutely adores Tyler (and his older sister too!). Even though there are two kids here I can actually get more done around the house because Tyler keeps Henry so interested in whatever he's doing. :)

Weekly Update!

I just realized I hadn't made a blog entry in over a week. Whoops! We had a great Mother's Day - a nice, laid-back brunch here at the house followed by a family trip down to the elementary school...it was such a beautiful day out. Our neighbor that Henry loves, Tyler, who is 5 years old came over for a playdate on Tuesday which absolutely made Henry's day. He's going to come over once a week for the next few weeks while his mom takes a class...it was so much fun to see him and Henry playing together - they were so into their playing that I could actually get some stuff done around the house. Today I took Henry to Wilson high school's JV baseball game. Of course that was a BIG hit (pun intended). He took it all in: watching for the coach to tell the player to run to the next base or to stop; watching the next batter up take practice swings; watching the pitcher throw.... This evening in bed he kept telling me about the coach saying "go!" or "stop!"
Also wanted to take this opportunity to send out another HUGE congratulations to Geoff for getting into OHSU medical school. One of the absolute best medical schools in the country and so hard to get into...but the best part is that he gets to stay in Portland! We had a party for him in which we all dressed up in doctor and patient costumes and had a great time listening to our stomachs with the stethoscopes....ha ha ha ha!

Weekly Update - 109 weeks?

While I'm not 100% certain that Henry is 109 weeks old this week, he did just turn 25 months old. The month of April has just flown by - I can hardly believe that it's already been a month since he turned 2. We had a pretty typical week this week. Because of the unpredictable rain showers, we spent more times indoors than out - two storytimes at the library instead of the usual one. The biggest development recently is just in how much he is talking. He's putting together little mini-sentences that are so cute. A lot of them are commands like "Sit down here, Mom." He also asks and answers questions...sometimes it's because he wants me to answer in a particular way, such as "You candy? Yeah." Other times it's because he knows I am going to answer in a particular way, such as "You nurse? Noooo." He draws out the "no" just like I do - it's hilarious. I guess I should mention that he refers to himself as "you." I am trying to get him to understand that when he's talking about himself he should say "me" or "I" but so far he doesn't get it. He even answers "you" when I ask him what his name is. We ordered him an awesome new bike helmet which arrived a couple days ago - it's a Giro infant helmet with flying pigs on it. I'll have to take a picture and post it.... Henry is super in love with it and wears it around the house - most often with the baseball mitt that Brett got him, a real, leather, left-handed mitt (or would it be a right-handed mitt? Anyway, a mitt for a leftie). Geoff had gotten him a velcro mitt and ball set for his birthday that Henry loves, but unfortunately it was for the wrong hand and Henry was constantly wearing it backwards so Brett got him the real thing.
